Google EARTH Images, Primary tool for field

Well i have been to many places for the first time, and surprise! its sometimes the valley, and sometimes the top.,but it does not help to understand the whole topography with TOPO SHEETS in hand.
And its not easy scrolling google earth from field., So better PRINT IT HUGE!
Google Earth images can be downloaded AS HUGE AS your Computer Resources can Support.
I mostly download 5000px by 5000px. that helps most of the time while printing good quality in A3 sizes.
Heres what helps in the field:

Bansbari VDC, Sindhupalchok District

Mahankal VDC, Sindhupalchok District

Melamchi VDC(N), Sindhupalchok District

Talamarang VDC, Sindhupalchok District (Zoomed)

These maps not only look good in printing but can be used for various purpose in the field.
The basic Knowledge required to produce such maps are: ArcGIS (Georeferencing) Google Earth ( Extracting huge size imageries)
And if COST is the factor! Topographic maps in paper costs NRs 200 BUT these maps are printed @NRs 80 each.
And Size,,,Hmmm! A1 sized Topomaps are real trouble, where these maps of A3 (or any size prefereable) are very handy.
So, Field work is really great next time.
( This post is intented to help Students of Environmetal Background to prepare for field, but can be really useful in professional trips also, where GARMIN MAPS may or maynot give a clue)

HOW TO DOWNLOAD LANDSAT IMAGE

Landsat Images are Best freely available source for satellite imageries.,
if you are working with GIS and Remote sensing., there is no better option than this..
And if you are using your expertise for the betterment of humankind.,you must be proud to get LANDSAT freely.,

Be sure you are abiding all terms and conditions.,

Go to GLOVIS.USGS.GOV
get yourself registered,
select LANDSAT archive if you want that particular category.,
drag and click the map where you want data.,
select the map tile.,
read the Path and Row ID...thats what you will identify always.,
select least Cloud cover map for your best time frame.,
Check the quality rating of the map.,

If thats OK.,
Add the tile.,
Send to cart
(If no window Pops up -  your browser is blocking it with a notification somewhere on top..enable it)
Download option is available
select the geotiff option or wutever you require..
small file size are just index you wont need.

get the map downloaded...

and work for the people.. and Science
